Yes I realize that this drug is not available in the US so those of you to
whom it does not apply feel free to skip. For the rest of the world, and I
understand the drug is available in Europe and Australia (am I right?)
PLEASE share your knowledge and experience. We really need to network on this.

This question is being asked for a local public health clinic. The patient
wants to nurse through the pregnancy and tandem nurse afterwards. She is
contemplating pregnancy and is evaluating the situation in advance. She
gathered the information from Mother Risk on her own, in advance of
contacting the LCs. Her child is approx. 1 year of age. The CPS (the
Canadian guide to pharmaceuticals) just says not recommended for use during
pregnancy, really a very mild warning compared to other drugs. Mother Risk
quoted a study saying of 10 mothers taking the drug 5 had children with
major anomolies. This is making the LCs concerned that we should be adding a
caution on the information sheets provided. We are also concerned about the
length of use and are very interested to know if this prolonged use is common.

> We have a client who has been taking domperidone for 11 months and
wishes to become pregnant again. Information gathered from MOTHER RISK in
Toronto indicates a high rate of anomolies associated with taking this drug
during pregnancy.
We have a number of questions:
                1. Is there any research to indicate that this drug is safe
during pregnancy? 2. Are you prescribing/recommending this medication?
                3. How long do you recommend women take this medication for
the purpose of stimulating lactation?
                4. What adverse affects have you encountered with this
medication?
                5. Do you caution women about possible teratogenic effects?<
