Ana, this is a practice in many UK maternity units.

It's generally regarded as good practice - it has to be monitored, 
though, and midwives who give formula even under these conditions 
have to be prepared to justify the decision with their managers. 
They need to record the mother has been told of the risks.

Some units accept the words ' mother's choice' written on the 
documentation; others need more details.
