This thread is one that causes me great daily frustrations!  The "number 
game" is a HUGE issue.  "How many minutes", "how often", "how many sides" 
etc.  As Rachel mentions, the baby is the best book the mother could ever 
read.  That, and accepting that mothers do have instincts and common sense - 
if only those "supporting" her would respect and encourage this.

Burping is another biggie here.  I do occasionally see babies burping in the 
first 3 days, but what I see mostly is mothers trying to burp a baby who is 
showing obvious feeding cues.  The feeling seems to be that a sign of a good 
mother is one who conscientiously and successfully burps her baby every few 
minutes. The liberal use of Telement drops is often advocated from day one 
for winds.
