UGH.

That's what I get for reading LACTNET first thing in the morning...I am so
disgusted.

I guess I'm kind of wrapped up in my pro-breastfeeding community that I
forget just how egregious most mainstream resources are about breastfeeding.
Thanks for sharing this (horrible, horrible!) example, Jennifer -- I needed
that slap in the face!

There are two things I try to say to a mother who is "on the fence" so to
speak.  One, I lifted from my brilliant co-Leader at our recent LLL meeting:
"Breastfeeding might not be for every mother, but breastmilk IS for every
baby."  The other is one I came up with myself. :) :  I remind the mother
that human milk is hands-down the best food for human babies, then say
something to the effect of "You have all of the information you need to make
your decision -- you are aware that artificially feeding your baby carries
risks; now it is up to you to weigh those risks against what you don't like
about breastfeeding."

I've gotten several pieces of feedback from mothers in later months who have
really appreciated that honesty, whether or not it has influenced their
choice.
