Allyson,
Did you mean she weaned at 6 months?  Something that occurs once a
month for a total of 6 *weeks* only occurs twice at most.  If that's
the case, I would not put too much stock in the perceived regularity
of these episodes with the first baby.  It is quite possible that it
was simple coincidence that two episodes occured a month apart.
During the first 6 weeks postpartum most women are not having regular
menstrual cycles anyway.  Even if you meant 6 months, that is still a
time frame when most breastfeeding women are not having regular
cycles the whole time.

My take is that good hygiene and careful breastfeeding management
should help her avoid plugs and mastitis with baby #2, whether her
previous episodes were cycle-related or not.
