Hey all!

Linda -

Sometimes just suggesting to the mom that she pump and use a bottle and
periodically put the baby to breast (just to see what will happen) will take
enough pressure off that the baby will then go to the breast. I know this
sounds like "just relax & you'll get pregnant" advice, but if she can enjoy
the feedings and the baby, and as Karen said, at least get some breastmilk
feedings before she totally dumps the whole idea, she may do better. I've
had one baby that suddenly decided to go to breast at 2 weeks, one at 4, one
at 6, and recently heard about one at 8 weeks. All were bottle fed
breastmilk during the intervening weeks, and the moms would put the baby to
breast on occasion -- not even routinely.

Deena,

Yes, but WHY did God choose the 8th day for circs? (and not the 7th or the
9th?) I know about the command from God to Abraham, but I'm curious about
the reasoning behind God's choice of day. I don't believe He does anything
like that in a vaccuum, and I suspect it has mutliple reasons. We did one
circ in the birthing center on a slightly older-than-usual baby (for one of
the residents) who couldn't be circed at the usual time -- can't remember why
right now. I swore I would NEVER participate in one again. I cried. The
baby cried. The other nurse cried. The mother paced the hall and cried. It
was awful! Even the bit of wine we gave the baby didn't help. If it was
going to be done, it should have been done by a mohel, and not the OB. But,
I don't know if mohels do circs on Protestant babies!?? (One of our OBs has
been trained as a mohel, and if any of the moms are going to that OB group, I
try to nudge them in the direction of him doing the circ if I am able).
