Pat,
When my son was born in 1968 at Walnut Creek Kaiser in Calif, there was
sterile nursery or rooming in. if there was no rooming in bed
available, the baby was kept in the nursery & mom couldn't touch the
baby. I told them no bottles & had a 30 hr. wait til I got a rooming in
unit. My son nursed, I wasn't engorged & we had 3 yrs of bf. I don't
believe that he received any bottles in the nursery but who knows the
truth. He was 8#7 1/2 oz at birth, 8# 1/2 oz at one day, 7# 14 oz at
2 days, 7# 14 oz at 3 days (discharge wt). By a week, he was
birthweight again. It doesn't seem as if they gave him formula in the
first 30 hrs.

It would be good to get some good statistics. People panic & give
bottles & I then see babies not interested in the human nipple.
