Tina,
I read the NY Times mag column on thumbsucking. It was a very sweet and
touching piece, about a mom's feelings about other people's reactions to her
son's thumbsucking (unilaterally negative) and her coming to terms with it as
a harmless comfort despite society's censure. Her struggle reminded me of the
process that some bf moms go through when nursing older babies- worrying that
maybe "everybody" is right, then going with their heart and meeting their
babies' needs.
Welcome back!
Catherine Watson Genna, IBCLC (who used to chew on her hair, and who's 6 year
old, nursed until almost 4 daughter occasionally chews on hers, same side,
same place!)
