 From Kathleen Auerbach:

"Larry Gartner's letter to the AAP is to be lauded for its straight talk
and concerns raised about the degree to which the AAP (or at least its
marketing division) may have socked itself in the eye and left a huge
bruise for all to see with their actions in conjunction with Ross Labs. The
cynic in me thinks that Ross knew exactly what it was doing in securing
this arrangement. I would love to know what they PAID the AAP for the
privilege of purchasing (or at least distributing) those 330,000 copies.

What a shame for the author and editors that they were so shabbily treated.
They are not the first to have experienced such treatment. There is a
cautionary tale here: whenever an author sells their work to a publisher,
any control they may have had goes out the window--unless their contract
with the publisher expressly prohibits the sale of the document in question
to a specific class of potential purchasers.
Thanks, Larry, for your efforts. I hope it results in a change; somehow, I
fear it may not.
