I currently have a mom on our unit who wanted to pump and bottle feed EBM
to her twins for 2 weeks, but was discouraged from doing this by a nurse.
(Arrrgh!) Reasons cited were that babies wouldn't get any added benefit for
this short period of time, and that mom would have a higher risk for
engorgement and infection. Apparently I need to do some staff education.

Now I'm wanting a handout that would go something like this:
"If you breastfeed for 3 days:
   Baby benefits:
   Mom benefits:

"If you breastfeed for 1 week:
   Baby benefits:
   Mom benefits:

"If you breastfeed for 2 weeks:
  Baby, Mom...etc etc...

All the way up to 2 years and beyond.

I believe that this phrasing is positive, even though it is not really giving
breastfeeding the credit as norm.

Does anyone know of such a handout? Or if not, can you point me to sources
where this info is already broken down into weeks/months? If I end up writing
one of my own I'll be glad to share!

Thanks,
