Kathy, I have re-read the posts in this discussion, and I can't see 
any which say 'some cultures are too worried about weights' but if I 
have missed something, I apologise.

I don't see 'cultural bashing' here at all.

I would hate, though, to think we cannot speculate on how culture and 
cultural practices impact on how women breastfeed and what sort of 
help they can access and what type of support they might get.

I agree - we can pretty much  assume that people on Lactnet want to 
do the best for the mothers and babies we care for.  But that demands 
a high level of self-awareness and cultural awareness, too, doesn't 
it?

We have often discussed here how the Western post-industrial 
revolution emphasis on timing, scheduling, resistance to responding 
to a baby's needs works against breastfeeding. And how some 
healthcare professionals blame breastfeeding for just about anything. 
And the way separation of mother and baby post-partum can undermine 
breastfeeding....all cultural practices which we quite rightly 
discuss, without 'bashing' the entire culture they come from.
