This sounds similar to a mom I worked with a few years ago. The baby,
maybe 6-8 weeks old, had a horrid rash, all over her skin. It reminded
me of a tomato rash, a rash I get when I eat way too many fresh tomatoes
from my garden. In talking to mom, she was eating a lot of tomato
stuff, with pastas, salads, ketchup, etc. But she thought I was
strange, to tell her to leave off the tomatos, so she went to the doc
who gave her a bunch of oral and topical drugs, including steriods, etc.
Yucky strong drugs. They decided that it wouldn't hurt to stop tomatos
for a week. They said within a few days the skin was clearing up and by
a week, most of the rash was gone. Within two weeks the baby's skin was
peachy clean. A week later mom decided to have just a little bit of
pizza, and the next day baby had a spot of rash on her arm and another
on her face. That convinced mom that this was a tomato rash. They
never used all the horrible steriods which were unneeded, but mom
avoided tomatos for year or so and then slowly introduced them back into
the diet, with no problems unless she ate a large amount. The child is
now 5 and is doing great, can eat tomatos, mom just keeps it in
moderation.

Her pediatrician had her stop breastfeeding and start formula stating the baby is allergic to a protein contained in breastmilk, not something she is eating and passing to the breastmilk and not lactose. The baby has no other symptoms. When given formula, the rash does not appear. Mom really wants to continue but her dr and her husband a pressuring her to stop nursing so the baby's rash will go away. Also the longer she nurses, the worse the rash gets. Any
