or, time for my rant about the infantilization of women -
elisheva, i agree with your approach of recommending herbs when the specific
situation warrants. it seems to me that your friend is providing these in a
well-intentioned attempt to use "reverse psychology." but i question doing
this, because it seems to be the opposite of what barbara wilson-clay was
discussing in her excellent post just after yours: breastfeeding can empower
women. giving the impression that worries about supply are so common that this
strategy should be employed to "trick" women into believing in their
abilities, seems to be a strategy that will ultimately backfire.

telling someone to expect the problem makes a problem more likely to occur ( i
know there is study evidence to back this up, but don't ask me right now).
telling women that they should expect a problem and "here is the cure" - i
think maybe what expectant mothers need in that basket is information and
support. as in perhaps a copy of the womanly art of breastfeeding, and a note
reminding the mother to call at any hour for information or support.

also, let's not demean the apparent power of these herbal remedies by
"prescribing" them when not needed. it's not professional, and whether or not
you and your friend have initials after your name has nothing to do with the
sort of image you should convey. use your knowledge to help.
