Dear Friends:
Barbara Wilson-Clay, hurray! Her post about Jack's mom, a casualty to
system and culture that does not value women or babies is right on target. We
are truly fighting a battle, one mother and baby at a time.
I like the bit about moving beyond contempt and anger, that you can't
teach someone that you are angry with or contemputous of. Personal experience
has given me that one, although it needs constant refreshing.
When I taught a bottle feeding class with the attitude in my
heart...."you people will just see how awful artificial feeding is, once I
get done with this class"....it did not fly.
When I paused and reflected, and had a prayer to open my heart and teach
people how to best feed their babies if they chose to do so, the whole
attitude of the class changed and people listened, instead of reacting
against me.
    Warmly,
Nikki Lee RN, MSN, Mother of 2, IBCLC, CIMI
