You can't mimic Symphony patters with any Ameda pump nor with Lactina pump. It is uniquely unique. It's not just the rate of the pump it is the "swallow bump" where the vacuum is held slightly and then released as a baby does when swallowing. I know that's not scientific terms but it's what I've observed over and over again. Pumpinstyle doesn't have it, Freestyle doesn't have it. It is controlled by the computer system that controls the piston action inside the pump. Whatever Medela's faults in code compliance, the products really work. So I'm not boycotting even if they aren't code compliant. Hope that doesn't jeopardize my certification!

Subject: Symphony Premie or Premie Pattern

I am aware of the 2 phase expression system which I believe is
approximately 2 minutes of the stimulation phase and then switches to
the expression phase (and mothers can switch it themselves if they've
letdown). Can anyone shed more light on what is different in the
premie pattern? I would love to try a similar pattern. Our hospital
uses the Ameda Elite pumps which we/mom can control the speed and
vacuum on a continuum with a dial.
