I find this discussion very interesting and have to say that I am not seeing
the same negative things others are with this Breast Flow Bottle. In fact I
often see exactly the opposite. Babies who were nipple confused going back
to breast more easily after a few days of BreastFlow... I see chompers who
are getting treatment (which is KEY!) do better on the breast because their
mouths are open and moving more like they need to be. I see more
consistency of motion with the Breast Flow bottle than any other in fact.

If baby has a t-t he may or may not be able to use the Breast Flow - depends
on how tight the t-t.

Baby needs to compress the outer nipple to pull milk into the blue nipple
and then do their negative pressure to pull milk out. Try it yourself -
using your fingers to compress (or squeexe) the outer nipple will pull the
milk into the inner nipple and then you can squeeze it out. The shallow
latch is a parental thing: Parents must be taught how to help the baby
latch to that nipple. When you look at the outer nipple it has 4 long
'ridges' that set inside the blue inner nipple. I have parents make sure
that baby's lips are at the outside edge of those ridges and not only on the
short little nipple. Yes the nipple squishes down and babies who are
chomping a lot will squish it down more - this is another sign to me that
baby needs treatment to ease up those jaws.

Yes some babies will compensate and chew or use too much suction and get the
milk out in a manner they really shouldn't be - but babies will compensate
on any nipple if they need to in order to get their milk. And, this does
not flow as fast as other standard nipples - at least not in my experience -
which slows babies down a bit and gives them sucking time.

I have seen a lot of success with the Breast Flow bottle. Only a few babies
have not done well with it. I see much less nipple preference or confusion
with it as well and that speaks loudly to me. Moms tell me that baby's
breastfeeding skills seem to improve tremendously when they switch out from
a standard nipple to the Breast Flow. For me, it is working and working
well... I wish it was more consistent.

I have to say that my ethical issues with Medela make it very difficult for
me to have any desire to try their Calma nipple. I am so disgusted by the
company now that I cannot help but to be highly skeptical of anything they
say or design. I am happy to stick with other nipples and options myself.
Maybe I am being stubborn - probably am. I will be watching other people's
reviews of it though...and who knows maybe someday I will give it a try.

Warmly,
Jaye
