PTP,  I have a client with a 6 day old baby.  She developed symptoms of mastitis yesterday.  But she is describing another sensation, an electrical/zinging sensation that begins in the nipple and radiates outwards.  Of course we think of raynaud's or vasospasms.  It does happen in relation to cold, but the cold does not have to be to the breast.  This will happen if her face gets cold or exposed to a cold draft, though the sensation is still on the breast.  Once it begins, she reports it tends to keep happening.  She will also feel chilled, shaking, feverish.  I am not sure if they are related to the sensation, or that is the mastitis symptoms or a combination.  No medications but does take supplements, no history of raynauds or similar symptoms, no history of breast or back trauma, currently has experienced some nipple trauma.  I am having her observe for any color changes, apply warmth, keep warm, rest, addressing latch issues.
