My understanding of the reason for Hale's L5 is that it is not related to alcohol or detoxification rather concern of toxicity.  It is discussed in the InfantRisk Forums here:  https://www.infantrisk.com/forum/forum/medications-and-breastfeeding-mothers/herbal-medications/1509-kombucha
