Admittedly, I dodge in and out in regard to my Lactnet reading... but I
believe I read a bit of a thread about breastmilk and how long it keeps
at various temperatures---including room temp. It seemed to me that we
were assigning or at least pondering 'magical qualities' to the
stability of breastmilk. In my experience breastmilk does indeed spoil
at room temperature and smells quite ripe when it does so. I had the
hardest time tracking down the odorous culprit when a mom inadvertently
left a bag of pumped milk behind, and somehow it ended up in a box in
our closet. It was an unpleasant few wks.

Interesting aside...when I was in 8th grade I won the top honors with my
Science Fair project.... which was slides of un-pasteurized cow's milk.
I was so frustrated at the time, that it took a really long time for it
to spoil, but once it did....the process was quick to progress. I had
wanted to have a slide of milk at one hour, milk at 2 hours, etc.
Instead I had to wait til the next day (as I recall) to find any
bacterial growth. So I changed my project to show milk at 1 day, 2
days, 3 days, etc.

How our early years set things into motion! Great isn't it!

People become really quite remarkable when they start thinking that they
can do things. When they believe in themselves, they have the first
secret to success.
