Camille and I have a question regarding sepia and breastfeeding. (Camille is
Camille Foretich, BS, IBCLC, District Breastfeeding Program Coordinator for
MSDH WIC Program in Hattiesburg, MS; I am Keitha Whitaker, BS, IBCLC, same
thing in Gulfport, MS.)
Camille received a question from a mother who just moved and was complaining
of depression because of the move. Mother was breastfeeding a 3-year-old.
Mother called her homeopathic care giver in CA who said that the mother was
depressed because her hormones were out of balance and prescribed sepia to
put hormones back in balance; doctor told the mother that she could not,
however, take sepia while breastfeeding. The mother weaned. Camille and I
would like to know (1) if weaning was necessary and (2) any other information
about sepia in relation to its use in breastfeeding mothers.
Camille is not on LACTNET but you can email her at:

Thanks!
