I have a friend who has asked for my help in identifying a rash she has on
her breasts. She is still breastfeeding her second child who is now almost
two. This rash appeared after the birth of her son and has persisted ever
since. It is only on her breasts. It is red, flaky and dry. It will
crack and bleed and is *extrememly* itchy.

She has been seen by a dermatologist and a IBCLC to no avail. They are all
stumped. It is not thrush or contact dermatitis.

It is slowly getting better as her son slowly cuts back on his nursing. It
does respond to topical cortisone but she doesn't want to use too much of
that and it just comes back.

I did a search of the archives and found reference to PUPPS and HERPES
GESTATIONIS. However, these both seem to clear within 6-8 weeks of
delivery.

The second mystery this mom has is the sores that appear in her son's
mouth. They are white rings with a hot pink center. They ulcerate and
then heal. They come back every 2-3 months.

Are the two problems related or are they two separate things???

Please CC me on any replies since I am currently set to no mail.

TIA,
