This is my first post but I have been reading lactnet for a few years. I have seen a mother and baby in the community twice. Mom has been pumping and bottle-feeding for 6 weeks and would like to get baby to breast now. There were some initial concerns with baby, she was early, lost weight, mom thinks she may have been suctioned, and would not latch. Presently she is doing very well but will not open her mouth wide enough to latch and feed. I have latched her and got her going but she bites down and stops after a few minutes and apparently doesn't do that well when I haven't been there. She is not upset at the breast-just doesn't feed. Mom has good positioning and technique, lots of milk and no problems with nipple size etc, baby just clamps down, flattens the nipple, and doesn't transfer much milk, mom isn't tense or sore. We have tried quite a few things but I would love some suggestions. Thanks
Marion, RN, IBCLC
