My experience, in the case of "grievously damaged" nipples, the answer is to
the above question is *no*, ....even the most perfect latch will not feel
good and may likely feel painful until the nipples heal at least somewhat.

My management is very similar to what Barbara Ash outlines.

In the case of somewhat tender nipples, due to a latch issue, yes, correcting
the latch may be all it takes to fix the pain.
