As a local WIC Coordinator, I just had to comment! Yes, there are WIC
clinics that are pathetic in BF promo & education, but there are some that
continually push to get more funding, more staff education, etc. I have
quadrupled my local BF budget in the last 2 yrs as Coordinator, but it hasn't
come without a lot of work!
Our clinic (about 2500 served/month) is tracking an objective to increase
BF duration among women on WIC while pregnant that choose to BF. Our goal
was for 65% to be still BF at 12 wks. We have exceeded that goal (67%) in
the past 6 mos. I feel this is quite an accomplishment for a challenging WIC
population. And I would also like to remind lactnetters that WIC is
reportedly the only US group where BF rates have INCREASED recently. Yes,
it's hard handing out the ABM, especially to a mom that BF, but we try our
hardest to educate & let the mom make the choice. Unfortunately, it's the
baby that has to live with it.

Also, will the IBLCE/IBCLC pins be available in Kansas City???
