Hi Jessica, just wanted to take a minute to let you know that yu're not
alone. I too have a nursling 21 month old and a 3.6 year old. My
daughter, the oldest , has started sleeping for a few hours in a bed
next to ours. Yes the room is very cramped, but we only use it for
sleeping anyway. She always comes into bed with me arund 3am and my
husband gets into her bed. No it's not always fun or convenient, but it
works for now. Nighttime issues are a big deal for me, I was one of
those kids never allowed near my parents' bed and can remember crying at
their door only to be yelled at to go back to my bed. I still am afraid
of the dark and sleep with a light on. It is difficult for them to sleep
by themselves. iIve read a lot about transitioning older children out
of the bed together. could your 2 older kids try sharing a bed? i am
sure though you want them to know they can still return to their "safe
haven" if need be. I have kind of figured both kids will be with us
until they are mature enough to make it in their beds all night. i do
firmly believe that this is a healthy sleep attitude/habit. i know it
gets frustrating, but secure, healthy kids are worth it. They do outgrow
it, no one goes off to college to sleep with their kids. Hang in there
and try to remember that one day you will tell THEIR children about how
you used to sleep 5 in a bed! Good luck!! Warmly, Jennifer Lane, LLL
