We don't generally think of food as something we need informed consent for.
Many hospitals have latte bars and fast food shops in them now. No one asks
customers to sign consents for those choices. No consent needed to change
from a clear liquid diet to regular. A doctor's order is needed, but not
consent. Is artificial feeding feeding or treatment? The mother signs for
treatment for her child when she walks in the door. Not for invasive
treatment, though. HOW did the paradigm around smoking change? We can still
get an order for someone to go out to smoke. It used to be that you could
get an order for alcoholic drinks, too. Judy
