Dear all,

Mid December 2011 I received the review of my Dutch translation of Jim McKenna’s ‘Sleeping With Your Baby’.
It was written by the Dutch cot death foundation and not surprisingly had a very negative tone.
(Those interested can e-mail me for the English translation of the review, which is not linked in the article.)
I’ve been working carefully, in cooperation with Jim McKenna, on my response.
I sent that response to the cot death foundation on the 10th January and all the documents have just been put online.
They are on the biggest Dutch breastfeeding website, www.borstvoeding.com , which has een enormous number of daily visitors.
This is the link: <http://www.borstvoeding.com/nieuws/samenslapen2.html>.
If you click on ‘brief in het Engels’, you will find my response.
Clicking on ‘Dit artikel’ will lead you to an article by Jim McKenna summing up his views.
Clicking on ‘In deze bijlage’ will lead you to a powerpoint by Brian Palmer, who addresses several issues.
He also comments on conclusions from several studies, one of them being done by a lady from the Dutch cot death foundation, Monique L’Hoir.
If you feel this information could help you in your own setting when cosleeping and bedsharing are discussed, feel free to use them.
I welcome reactions, either on or off list.

Have a nice weekend,

Marianne Vanderveen-Kolkena IBCLC, Netherlands
