I think that the point that the NH&MRC is trying to make is that there is no
evidence that any formula, organic, gold or flown in from mars is any less
likely to cause adverse health outcomes than any other.
Formula is never 'safe'.  Artificial feeding is always a risky health
behaviour.  Powdered Infant Formula presents a particular risk to infants
under 28 days old, those born prematurely and immunocompromised infants.
This is because they are not manufactured under sterile conditions and are
commonly contaminated (in the tin before reconstitution).  These infants
should be fed breastmilk either from their mother or from another woman.  If
that is not available then 'ready to feed' (ie liquid) breastmilk
substitutes are recommended.  I have sent you copies of the WHO warnings
about E. Sakasakii.
