Hi Cheryl,

According to my dh-the-pharmacist-in-the-family, once the mother has
completely woken up from the general anesthesia, it is essentially out of her
system, including out of the bm should there be any in there. The
interesting thing I find is that many anesthesiologists will tell moms to
pump & dump for 24 hours after surgery with general anesthesia, completely
ignoring the fact that moms that have a general for a C/Section bf as soon as
they are awake & feeling up to it! Also, at our hospital, many moms have
tubals immediately after delivery with a general, and the babies aren't
prevented from nursing once the mom is out of recovery.
