Jaye,
It is so hard to tease out all the factors.
Here are my thoughts after briefly considering your case.
I am thinking a latch problem or some degree of tongue tie or low tone, or
something
anatomical like that.
The reason I think that is becoz the baby had a stellar wt gain in the
beginning. Even if the mom supplemented with 2 oz formula per day, this
WOULD
NOT bring a wt gain of 20 oz in 10 days. You would want to verify that mom
was
only giving this amount and not more.
It seems mom may have actually had an oversupply and the baby
coasted/cruised on that
oversupply without learning or being able to properly latch to the breast.
Over time, that huge
supply down-regulated and baby was not actually effectively milking the
breast. So things have
gone downhill from there.
This is where I would be looking, but certainly the other factors could be
contributing (allergy, food
sensitivity); or I could be totally wrong.
