Jan Aken asked about a mom whose baby liked to suck his thumb while
nursing...I agree that if it doesn't cause him to unlatch or cause her nipple
pain, why interfere? My daughter did the same thing at the same age as this
baby. I figured that she wanted to suck her thumb because she had just found
it and found that she COULD suck it. She eventually took to only sucking the
thumb when not nursing, and was a very settled and self soothing baby from
four months of age on. She is 3yo and still sucks her thumb when she has her
"blanket" and is tired. BTW, her first dentist appointment last week noted
an overbite but the dentist said it was the way her mouth probably would have
developed without regard to her thumb-sucking OR her nursing.
