You know, this is a great tactic to use--it puts the burden of proof onto the
person suggesting a mom do something (usually when we talk about it here,
something detrimental to health, or breastfeeding, or both).  One thing I have
noticed, though, is that many (even medical personnel, who should have their
sights set a litttle higher) respond by saying, "this is something that has
been done for *ever*; of course it is safe and effective, etc."  This mode of
thinking goes along with, in my opinion, "I don't care what research says; I
(or my momma or my aunt or whoever) did just the opposite and everything
turned out just fine!" and the also (around here anyway) oft-heard: "a lick of
common sense is worth a bushel of book-learning/research/etc."

How do ya'll deal with this sort of mentality?
