I would like to add to this debate, that I really don't like nursing pillows
at all! ~ reasons
1. Mums now think this is part of the breastfeeding 'kit', and taking the
'empowering' away from the mothers - all they need are breasts and babies,
except in special situations.
2. The cost of breastfeeding is being 'pumped up' by all these 'necessary
accoutrements', it is now probably financially cheaper to formula feed! - we
don't need to add to the reasons why mums don't bf
3. Makes bf 'too difficult' - they have to lug a giant pillow with them
everywhere they go - so now it's much more 'convenient to bottle feed'! -
(to add to the list)
4. Mums actually do not know HOW to use them! - they think it is to rest the
baby on. I have seen many mums and the numbers are quickly increasing where
the baby is resting on the pillow rather than being positioned and supported
by mum, with nipples so badly sore and cracked that you wouldn't believe
(well OK maybe people on this list would!)all due to poor p&a due to the
pillow.
5. If mums feel they need 'support' (when I suggest they don't use the
pillow), I remind them that the pillow is for MUMS comfort and not babies,
so if the babe is latched well but mum needs support for their arm, then use
an armrest or 'a' pillow (not necessarily a 'c' one), likewise if it's to
protect a cs then fine, but on no account should it be used for baby.

Wobbler over with!

There are several reasons I don't like that particular pillow. Of course
there are many different people and I am sure it works great for some. I
find mothers using it and laying their baby across it and then lean down to
nurse the baby. On tall women it doesn't seem to be tall enough for baby to
reach the breast. I also have found that on larger women it bends and
creates a hole that baby slides into. It also doesn't fit very well around
a large post-partum belly. I think that if you are relatively small or
short, that many of these issues don't happen. It always seems to be on
tall or large women that I have problems with the boppy. Just wanted to
share the other side. :)
