Chris, the image of your toddler holding gum to nurse just made me laugh!
lol.  After weaning my first child at 9 months, I was determined to let my
second (and now my third) nurse as long as he wants.  He will be 2 on 3/4
and today after having a lovely post-nap tantrum he asked for "boob and buzz
mommy"  in that order, meaning he wanted me to sit down in front of the tv
and nurse him while he watched Buzz (Toy Story 2).  Many people in our
society would say that if he is this articulate about what he wants then
it's probably time to wean.  Shhh... don't tell him that!  Good thing we
homeschool or I fear I would have to take the bus with him to kindergarten!
