My understanding is that sucrose can be used for procedural pain, for example, during a venipuncture, a lab draw, a circumcision. This is a very brief time and a few drops are given. Especially for lab work, the mother can breastfeed instead of the glucose. I tried to find something to answer this definitively but could not. I’m sure a call to BFHI would clarify.
