Thank you Pamela for reminding us that breastfeeding in Africa is not always
as easy as we would like to believe. Because breastfeeding is *seen*
everywhere - in the market place, on the bus, on post cards! - it does not
mean it is without hiccups. My experience is similar to Pam's. I find that
with many of the black moms it is not usually a case of "all or nothing",
but *some* breastfeeding usually continues. The white moms, on the other
hand, will change completely to formula if breastfeeding "doesn't work".
And I don't think this is purely a financial issue, but tradition dictates
that women breastfeed and babies are comforted at the breast - where else?
Very sweeping generalisations, I know.
