Hi All,

Thanks for the posts on rhuematoid arthritis and breastfeeding. I was on
vacation last month and breezed through the earlier discussion on this
topic. You just can't afford to mis anything! So its prolactin that may be
implicated in her joint pain....not progesterone...which did not make sense
to me!

This has been a week of truly unusual things - today a mom presented 1st day
post C/D with a hx of
partial (70%) removal of her pituitary gland r/t a cancerous tumor back in
1995. She did radiation tx. She on synthroid and other HRT and became
pregnanct only with IVF. She was told she might not produce milk due to
lower than normal prolactin reponses to suckling. She noted good antepartum
breast changes and we heard a few swallows with early feeds :) I am
thinking of encouraging a honeymoon of exclusive nursing take a wait and see
attitude for 24-48 hrs and monitor output as we would with any baby. Mom and
Dad might like to pump (to see it to believe it!) and have already aske
if her milk would be "good". I suggested for now to nurse, nurse, nurse and
see how the first several days go and to think about additional pumping if
baby see, disinterested at all - she's off to a great start today!

Any thoughts on this - for some reason intuition tells me this mom is going
to make good milk. I certainly could use something more scientific. Anyone
have any experiences with this?
