We have the OR/PACU literally around the corner. One of our RNs is present
during operative delivery. Depending on mom's comfort level and baby's
APGAR's/response to birth, the infant is placed under the drapes on mama.
Sometimes during the surgical procedure, she is too uncomfortable for this.
In any case, baby is placed as close as possible. Then Dad, baby and RN are
back to the unit until PACU(Recovery) notifies us of mom's arrival. The
trio returns for more skin to skin (hopefully first breastfeed) and
transfers back with mom. One of my favorite moments in life is to see them
all being wheeled back, baby securely latched on, all beaming.
