client who wants to breastfeed but her baby has a short
frenulum and she had difficulty getting baby to latch. We discussed
talking to
the pediatrician about clipping the frenulum to facilitate breastfeeding.
According to the client the doctor's response was "have you tried a
bottle?"
First does any have any ideas on encouraging this client to
continue breastfeeding? Second, how might I approach this physician to
educate her on how this procedure may have helped the client continue
breastfeeding

I like this research for Pediatricians because it was published in the AAP
journal

Ankyloglossia: Assessment, Incidence, and Effect of Frenuloplasty on the
Breastfeeding Dyad

Conclusion
"Milk transfer, infant growth, maternal nipple pain, and breast pathology
can improve significantly after frenuloplasty. When performed carefully and
with sterile technique, frenuloplasty is a simple, safe, and effective
procedure for dyads that have difficulty with breastfeeding secondary to
neonatal ankyloglossia."
