Hi Ladies!

I have been approached by our L&D Nurse Manager and Women's Services Director regarding placing babies skin-to-skin in recovery after a c-section if the mom's temperature is very low and she is under a bear hugger. Their question is two-fold. Is there any research that shows that the mother be able to keep the baby warm if placed skin-to-skin with her temperature  95 or 96 degrees? And is there any research that shows that the bear hugger might be harmful for the baby?

My take is that the bear hugger should offset any concern about the baby's temperature dropping due to mom's low temperature and that bear huggers are not going to dangerously overheat babies. ("Staffing Productivity" does not allow for a  "Baby Nurse" in recovery to monitor the baby's temperature). 

I told them that I would report back to them with any words of wisdom from the Lactation Kingdom :-)
