Re: Programs

Wow! I had the opportunity today to join a young lady who is temporarily
staying with us on a tour of the Job Corps facilities in a neighboring
town. This is a program! Nice facility and learn while you earn
opportunity. She can get her GED and Vo-Tech training while being paid.
They have a very nice residential program which includes housing, food
and clothing which will be terrific for my house guest. They also offer
non-res program. The housing and cafeteria facilities were nicer than
the UC I attended. The student/teacher ratio is approx 12:1, and the
program is work at your own pace, so you are responsible for completing
the work necessary for promotion/graduation. They pay an allowance
every second week, and the balance of $ earned is banked until
completion. Pass the GED exam? get bonus! Complete Vo-Tech? get bonus!
Want some college? no problem! My houseguest can earn her LPN in the
program! This is how I like to see my tax $ at work. Reward the baby
steps, encourage education and responsibility while teaching respect and
real life job skills.

Eschew Obfuscation!

"A newborn baby has only three demands. They are warmth in the arms of
its mother, food from her breasts, and security in the knowledge of her
presence. Breastfeeding satisfies all three." ~ Dr. Grantly Dick-Read
