What an interesting perspective I am hearing from the breastfeeding
community. I have to admit I am quite surprised.

I believe this child is 15 months old.

Although I am an employed mom, I was never apart from my daughter overnight
when she was that young. In fact, we just had our first overnight apart a
week ago and she is now 2 1/2 and no longer nurses throughout the night,
though we still nurse frequently during the day when we are together.

When I saw her again after the night apart she hid her face from me and
acted shy, whereas when I see her after a day of work she comes running to
me calling mommy with glee. This was a different greeting. Our separation
was definitely more traumatic, even at 2 1/2, than our separations during my
work time.

I agree that a father should have an important role in a child's life; my
husband is a SAHD. However, a father can have an important, significant
role without overnights that require mom and baby to be separated while the
child is being breastfed throughout the night.

Jennifer, if you could forward me some of your research, I think that would
be helpful.

Alexis
