I'm wondering if anyone knows anything about this disease and how it might or might not impact breastfeeding in an affected mom. From the info I've read, it is a deficiency of an enzyme, glucocerebrosidase, which can cause serious problems for the affected person. I haven't been able to concoct an
explanation that would tie this condition into the amount of weight loss (> 10% on day 4) in baby and dehydration, born out by a chem panel. I know anemia is associated with this condition, and the mother has a rather low hgb, seems really tired every time I've seen her, but has been putting baby
to breast often and feeding well per staff (who are pretty reliable in assessing feeds) and mom, though I haven't yet managed to catch a feeding. Any info would be appreciated, and please reply to me directly as well as to the list.

TIA
Marsha, whose son graduated from basic training last week and he looked sooooooo handsome in uniform!!! (sniff...sniff...)
