I wonder if the mother has gone onto a hormonal contraceptive at this stage
each time?

Subject: Difficult case

This is my first time posting to this forum so please be gracious with me.
I have a 40 year old client who is six weeks postpartum with her 8th baby.
This is her second baby with our home birth practice.
She has had all unmediated uncomplicated births. Client had breastfed each
of her babies 15-17 months, but around 5-7 months they get very skinny and
it has happened sooner with each baby. She states that her supply plumets
around this time with each child and happens sooner with each. The babies
act hungry and cry constantly, including all night long and therefore she
feels she needs to supplement. She did blessed thistle and fenugreek as
well as a used hospital grade pump with the previous baby.
We have ruled out the obvious, the thyroid has been checked, discussed
co-sleeping and parenting styles. What is peculiar to me is that it has
gotten worse with each baby, rather than improving as would be expected. I
realize I am probably missing many details, if you could provide any
guidance I would appreciate it. I am hoping to stay ahead of the issue this
time.

Thank you,
