I echo all previous answers that this baby does not need to eat 24 oz in 8
hours, and DOES need to find a new daycare.

OR...have you planted the seed of the idea that mom could decide to stay
home with this baby for a while?

I recently had a patient who developed a plug during her first week back at
work...ignored it for days, and called with full-blown mastitis. At the
same time, her 2 month-old baby caught a bad cold at daycare, and refused to
nurse. She came in for help trying to pump that breast, and her husband
brought her. I think I might have said something about how this scenerio is
not uncommon when a mom returns to work...mastitis plus sick baby. She then
developed an abscess and was completely miserable until it was drained.

She came in the other day (a week later) and said her husband had suggested
she quit her job because of the experience, and she smiled as she said she
thought she would. I praised he up and down.

I wish our society would give women permission to do this more often. As a
Pediatrician with a 1 yr-old and 4 year-old I was talking to a good friend
about how miserable I was, and she gently suggested I quit my job. I
laughed at her initially. I had not even earned enough money to pay back my
student loans yet! I "can't" quit. But I hung up the phone and thought
about it for 3 days straight, and told my partners I wanted out. A huge
weight was lifted from my shoulders. I stayed home for 5 years, and wish I
had been home the 4 previous years. Her one comment opened a window for me,
and changed my life.

I know some women "can't afford" to quit their job. But for many women, if
they really take a critical look at it, by the time they pay for daycare, a
wardrobe, fast food in a pinch, medical bills, it is often a wash. I just
wish society would promote thinking about all of this BEFORE your baby is
born...and gosh, maybe even support us with longer maternity leave?!?!?

Wow--sorry---I got on my soapbox. My point is just that we all are in a
position to gently plant the seed, and some women who would never have
considered staying home for a while might realize that they really do want
to!
