And, of course, the baby bottle in Mel B's hands, in the "In My Name"
'raise awareness and remove world hunger' video currently being
supported by a whole raft of charities, remains. As does Oxfam's
statement that the baby bottle in this video represents motherhood - a
statement that has not been retracted whilst all the various charities
continue to ignore demands that the bottle image be removed.

In fact, some of those very same charities, have looked on confusedly,
asking what all the fuss is about, as have supporters of the "In My
Name" campaign. One such supporter responded to complaints on the
Facebook website, that the babies who die of baby bottle use would die
anyway, as there was no food to give them without the bottles, and it
was naive to think that a women in an emergency could produce milk at
all, never mind keep a baby alive, and he'd seen this with his own eyes.

Yet the baby bottle image is still there, as are the statements that it
is doing no harm.

A few years ago, when Australians were being evacuated from the Solomon Islands in the Pacific, the media showed pictures of our Australian Navy boys and girls bottle-feeding babies "to give the mothers a break". The television report didn't say if the babies were already artificially fed. It did, however, suggest that bottle-feeding the babies was good preparation for the young sailors for parenthood.
> The intimate mental association of babies with bottles has been deep-seated in our Australian culture for a hundred years, and possibly more. Bottles continue to be on signage for parenting rooms for feeding and changing babies, except where a building has accepted the babycare symbol (and met the standards required) that is promoted by ABA. They still appear on congratulations cards for new parents, with dolls, and to decorate other "baby" things.
