Had a really upset mother call me the other day to find out if she has
any recourse with her employer. As the story goes, she is expected back
to work and was making sure she could use the bathroom (there is only
one) for pumping at breaks and during lunch. She stated it would only
take 10 minutes but was told this could not be supported and that they
thought if she found it necessary to continue breastfeeding she should
take an unpaid extended leave. She, of course, is outraged because after
working here for 10 yrs she expected some cooperation and support.
Instead she feels they are denying her the right to feed the baby how she
feels best. Can she do anything about this?
