Dawn says: 'Mom puts baby to breast for around 3 feedings a day.'

But this is *nowhere near* frequently enough to build up a supply... It's
hard, but this mother, IMHO, needs to know that she really *doesn't have a
prayer* of bf if she cannot feed more often than this - obviously, we
don't express it to the mother in quite these bald terms, but giving this
information in a way that is straight and easily-understood is essential.

I try to explain to mothers how bf works, and this helps their
understanding. Then, if she chooses not to feed more often than this, and
have the baby close to her so she can fit in more feeds just because the
baby will accept them....and no ABM, whether or not the boyfriend wants to
feed - he can do that later (maybe with EBM) when the supply is
established....well, that is her 'choice', and it may, as Dawn suggests,
the best she can do, for all sorts of personal, social and emotional
reasons.
