I really encourage you to go to the www.cpqcc.org
(California Perinatal Quality Care collaborative)

They have some excellent "toolkits" including Parts I and II for the
nutritional support of VERY LOW BIRTH WEIGHT infants.

Neonatologist Dr. Nancy Wight is one of the collaborators in CPQCC - a
frequent voice here on Lactnet.

We need to remember that babies are now being born that would have normally
died - and for whom breast milk alone would not fully provide for their
needs. Nature never expected we would need to feed them!

So this toolkit provides information about TPN feeding, establishing enteral
feedings, working towards breastfeeding and the entire time supporting
mother's milk supply through the weeks and months that are needed while baby
grows and matures. Kangaroo care is promoted. Lots of references and
information is provided all along, including instructions in various
alternate feeding methods (all identified as "alternate" as breastfeeding is
considered the "norm").

In addition there are handouts for parents and policies and procedures for
staff.
