website??!! He must *surely* be a millionaire many times over from all his
different enterprises (book royalties, speaking fees, and just from being a
doctor). You would think he could afford a little ole website out of his
own pocket, without caving in to the formula folks. For shame.

Kathy, I work with authors all day, some artistic, some wise, some plain
trashy, and I can say with great confidence that in NONE of those categories
are there any -- repeat, ANY who have become "a millionaire many times over."

I do mean ANY. -- I have at various times worked for baby care folks up to
and including the estate of the late Dr. Spock, and bestselling novelists up
to and including Scott Turow, and no, they aren't starving in the streets.
But if they wanted to be rich they'd still quit doing what they do and go get
an MBA. To think otherwise is fantasy. Bill Sears is not going to
accidentally receive OJ Simpson's book advance

Yeah, they take speaking gigs. And yeah, there's an income from being a
pediatrician. But let's think about a pediatrician's normally
less-than-grandiose pay, plus lets imagine that he's flying around the
country every single weekend of the year to speak (on non-peds time
presumably), for whatever fee you think he gets.   Now let's do that math;
and then imagine that he is aging and partly retired and has, what, eight?
college tuitions to pay.

None of that necessarily adds up to thinking it's ok to take the ads. Only
to not being too quick to demonize anybody, but especially your friends.

not that we wouldn't all *like* to be millionaires many times over

All that
